LEN President Antonio Silva backs Split 2022 to be a “huge success.”

“It is a pleasure to write this welcome message to celebrate the 2022 European Championships in Water Polo,” states LEN President Antonio Silva.

“The promotion of this discipline of aquatics – which combines ball skills, speed, strength, and teamwork – has long been a priority for LEN. The LEN European Water Polo Championships has a rich tradition, with the 2022 edition being the 35th for men and the 19thfor women. As well as events for national teams but club competitions such as the Champions League, Euro Cup and Challenger Cup.

Croatia is a top Water Polo nation. The men’s team have won gold medals in the Olympics, World and European Championships, FINA World League and Mediterranean Games, making them one of the most successful men’s water polo teams in the world, but the addition of a fast developing women’s team will ensure that there will be a great atmosphere in the stadium.

“The magnificent and historic seaside city of Split has chosen the Spaladium Arena as venue for the event. It is an impressive multi-purpose indoor arena, which opened in December 2008 and has hosted handball, basketball, indoor football as well as concerts.

“With a maximum capacity of 12,339 spectators, the Spaladium has been reconfigured with a temporary indoor pool to welcome Europe’s best national teams.

I’m sure that representatives of the media will also enjoy our top event and at this state-of-the-art the venue you’ll find all media-related facilities of the highest standards.

“The LEN Media Team will be on site to support your coverage with the usual service, together with the LOC’s experienced and devoted staff-members. Everyone and everything is ready, and I hope that you can deliver a great job and contribute a great deal to the success of the Championships.

“With motivated athletes and a large, noisy crowd, the stage is set for a wonderful competition and a perfect way to conclude what has been a busy year for European Aquatics.

“I would like to warmly thank my colleagues at the Croatian Water Polo federation, the City and National Authorities and the event sponsor partners who have worked tirelessly to make this event a success.”
