LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup, 4th leg, Copenhagen (DEN)

Swimming in crystal clear waters

For the third time, the centre of Copenhagen will offer a beautiful setting for the fourth leg of the LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup this Saturday. A handful of top European swimmers will compete on a 6km course in the crystal clear water of the canals surrounding the historic centre of Copenhagen, including The Danish Parliament and The Royal Danish Library.

Swimmers representing Denmark, Italy, Israel, Hungary, Sweden and Germany will be part of a great swimming show, named TrygFonden Copenhagen Swim, where more than 4000 recreational swimmers will participate on the same course.

LEN Bureau Member and General Secretary of the Danish Swimming Federation Pia Holmen is pleased to see so many participants in the LEN OWS Cup: “We are very proud that the Danish Swimming Federation is hosting the LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup once again as a part of the popular recreational swimming event TrygFonden Copenhagen Swim together with Sport Event Denmark and Municipality of Copenhagen. It is a pleasure to experience the growing interest for open water swimming both in Denmark but also in Europe. We hope that events like Copenhagen Swim will show that open water swimming is an attractive sport for swimmers at all levels.”

The LEN OWS Cup 2017 is one of the two international swimming events Denmark host this year in cooperation with Sport Event Denmark.

“For the third time Denmark will host this cup in the heart of Copenhagen displaying the strong traditions of swimming in Denmark both in open water and in the pool. As we should add that in December Denmark stages the European Short Course Championships also in Copenhagen,” says Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark.

The newly branded LEN OWS European Cup enjoys growing popularity and involving well-established venues and iconic locations it engages more and more top swimmers.
