European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships, Marseille (FRA) – Results

Grand battles ahead

The LEN Family returns to Marseille, this time to watch fierce competitions in the sea after a successful General Congress held in the city back in May. The continents’ top juniors race for the medals in the three age-groups over three distances in the weekend.

Though it’s an age-group event, there are several competitors who already gained experience in the elite. Especially in the women’s field half dozen athletes took part in the FINA World Championships racing against seniors two weeks ago.

In fact, one of them is a world champion: Jeannie Maryse Oceane Cassignol was part of France’s gold medal winning team in the relay event in Balatonfured (HUN) – obviously the 16 year-old is one of the top favourites for the 7.5km title in home waters.

Races are contested in three age-groups for both genders: 10km (18-19yrs), 7.5km (16-17yrs) and 5km (14-15yrs), while two mixed relay events are staged on the closing day.

The discipline offers another highlight for the weekend: on Saturday, Navia (ESP) hosts the 3rd leg of the LEN European Open Water Swimming Cup.
