PREVIEW – Almost 750 competitors are going to arrive from forty-seven countries to the Junior European Swimming Championship held in Hódmezővásárhely next week. The head coach of the national team, András Hargitay has high hopes of winning three to five medals by the Hungarian young participants.
“Entrance is free of charge for the public on each and every day of the European Championship” -it was stated, amongst others, by István Almási, mayor of the town, and by Zsolt Benkő, head of the organising committee, in a press conference held one week before the tournament.
Tamás Gyárfás, the president of the Hungarian Swimming Association (MÚSZ) has said thanks for the preparatory work lasted for more than a year, and as he stated: “this event can be considered as a kind of full rehearsal for the swimming events of the World Championship held in Budapest next year and this visit has fully convinced me that the organisation will be of high quality”.
According to the report of the MÚSZ (Hungarian Swimming Association), Zsolt Benkő has stated that János Lázár -head minister of the prime minister’s office-, the MP of the town, Paolo Barelli, the president of the European Association (LEN) and the Olympic champion, Dániel Gyurta, -the patron of the event – will all participate in the opening ceremony held next Wednesday. The city dwellers can follow the events on huge screens both in the main square and in the beach.
The European Championship will be held from next Wednesday to next Sunday in the Gyarmati Dezső Sport Stadium. The heats will start at 9.30 a.m. whereas the finals will start at 17.30, the M4 Sport Channel is going to broadcast the finals live every day.
