Final 6 – Bronze Medal game: Recco (ITA) v. Szolnok (HUN) 7-11, flash quotes and clip

Pro Recco–Szolnoki VSK 7:11, Bronze Medal Match… by lentv

Zoltan Kosz, assistant coach, Szolnok:

“This game went as we hoped or may I say, expected. We drove the match, everyone did his best, we were good in centre, in defence, in the goal. This was a really fine end to our season, we all know what’s the difference between a bronze medal and a fourth place. Szolnok is third in Europe, it’s great for this team, even if we wanted something more before this event. Bad taste? Today surely not, perhaps tomorrow or a day after, but not too bad, definitely.”

Amadeo Pomilio, head coach, Recco:

“It was mainly our defence which didn’t work in the games we played here. Yesterday we played a tough match against a really good opponent, Jug, now we faced another great team, Szolnok and we lost. This is sport, it can happen to any team. Of course, we missed Stefano Tempesti, he is the captain, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, though our goalie did a good job here, we cannot blame him. Perhaps the opponents were braver in attack seeing someone other than Stefano in the goal.”

Matteo Aicardi, player, Recco

„It was a very hard game, against a very tough opponent, and all in all, it was a very tough tournament. We were very disappointed yesterday, and I think we didn’t play hard enough, so we didn’t deserve to win this game. We could have won yesterday against Jug, so we would play in the final now, but that’s the sport, you don’t always win, even if you give 100%.”

Gabor Kis, player, Szolnok

“Now I have mixed feelings. We lost yesterday, but today our defence was very good, I am proud of my team. I think that this Szolnok team is so good that one day we will win the Champions League and we could have done it already here. But of course we are happy with this bronze.”
