LEN is celebrating RFEN’s 100th anniversary

Today is the centennial of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN) and LEN is celebrating together with our Spanish friends though only through virtual hugs and good wishes since the real celebrations need to be postponed in these troubled times.

LEN President Paolo Barelli sent a welcome message to RFEN President – and LEN Vice-President – Fernando Carpena, which you can read below.

Dear Mr President Carpena, Dear Fernando, Dear Friend,

On behalf of the LEN Family and the LEN Bureau, let me warmly welcome you on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation.

We are living extraordinary times when our activities should be put on a halt but this does not prevent us from sending you and the entire Spanish Aquatic Family our heartfelt congratulations and wish you strength, courage and patience until our most treasured aquatics, the athletes, coaches and officials can return to the pools.

What a century you can look back upon! The traditions of Spanish aquatics are built onto an exceptionally firm base: your true love towards sports and the country’s outstanding aptitudes are pillars we can only look with the utmost admiration.

The progress Spain showed in the past decades in every discipline is also breath-taking. Olympic titles, brilliant medal collections at World and European Championships in swimming, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming and water polo underline the status of Spain in the world of aquatics: a major powerhouse.

Your country has always been a highly appreciated partner where our meets and even the absolute highlight of all sport spectacles, the Olympic Games found a true home. Whenever any city of Spain is chosen to stage any of LEN’s showcases, either Madrid, Barcelona or Seville, just to name the top hosts from the past, we can be sure that we will find the highest standards, the best of professionalism, the warmest welcome and some unique flavour of creativity and sensibility.

European Aquatics could always rely on you and you can also count on the LEN Family all the time – we are bound in maintaining our continent’s leading role a on the global stage and I do hope that the time is not far away when we can celebrate this magnificent anniversary in person together, in joy, happiness and peace.

Happy 100th birthday RFEN!

Paolo Barelli

LEN President
