DIVING – Clarification – Olympic qualification

In our Media Guide we published wrong information regarding the Olympic qualification in connection with the ongoing European Championships in Kyiv. Below please find attached the updated part and also the list of Europe’s qualified divers from the World Championships (12 finalists in each individual event qualified for the Olympics).

OLYMPIC GAMES. Each European winner in the four individual Olympic events (3m men/women, 10m men/women) will gain a berth for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo/JPN (July 24 to August 09), according to the FINA By-laws BL 9.3.8.3.1. Since there is no further explanation available, according to the LEN Technical Diving Committee, if a Kyiv gold medallist has already qualified at the Worlds, it means that he/she has earned the spot twice but NO ONE shall ‘inherit’ his/her qualifying spot based on either the World ranks (next highest ranked European in the semis) or at the current the Europeans Championships (highest ranked non-qualifying athlete in the final).

The last chance to earn Olympic spots will be the diving World Cup in Tokyo in late April 2020 – top 18 divers in each event –, which shall already serve as the diving test event for the Games.

In synchro events, the top 3 pairs qualified from Gwangju. Remaining places: the top 4 ranked pairs from the Diving World Cup in Tokyo next April. (No qualification from the continental championships.)
